Author(s): Jeffrey O Bennett, William L BriggsDifference between 6th and 5th editions Side by side comparison of table of contents helps to figure out the most significant changes. |

**Key differences between 6th and 5th editions**

- Period between current and previous publications: 4 years (2014 vs 2010).
- For the first time Bennett and Briggs' textbook was published in 1998.
- Newest Sixth Ed. consists of 12 chapters -- just like in the previous Fifth Ed. -- but has 24 pages more.
- Each chapter now begins with an infographic and multiple-choice question.
- In Chapter 1, Unit 1A "Living in the Media Age" (former Unit 1A "Recognizing Fallacies") includes a focus on evaluation of media information. The authors rewrote portions of Units 1C and 1D to help students better understand and interpret Venn diagrams and tests of validity.
- In Chapter 2 basic ideas of units and systems of standardized units are now all covered in Unit 2A "Working with Units", while Unit 2B "Problem-Solving with Units" focuses on more sophisticated problem solving with units.
- Chapters 3 and 4 contain several units that revolve around economic data - such as Census data, the consumer price index, interest rates, taxes, and the federal budget - which required major updates in view of the changes in the United States economy in the four years since the prior Fifth edition was published.
- Chapters 5 and 6 focus on statistical data; the material has been updated to reflect most current information.
- Chapter 7 includes a significantly revised discussion of several key probability ideas.
- Chapters 8 and 9: units 8B, 8C, and 9C all rely heavily on population data, so these include significant revisions to show the 2010 U.S. Census and updated global demographic data.
- Chapter 12 is significantly rewritten, particularly in Units 12A and 12C, both to update the political data and to clarify key concepts, including those of preference schedules and redistricting.
